Concrete that can bend

Have you seen concrete bend? Definitely not. Traditional concrete will take only so much pressure before it cracks. But a team led by Victor Li of University of Michigan in Ann Arbor has developed a new type of concrete that bends under such pressure and can also repair itself! This self-healing concrete develops many hairline fractures when bent. The tiny cracks will seal themselves because of the calcium carbonate contained in it when exposed to rainwater and carbon dioxide. This new technology is very useful in building bridges without expansion units. It will also make it safe during earthquakes.
