The End of humanity. The Apocalyptic finale of mankind. The Mayan Calendar predicted it way before anyone of us. Now throw in The End of Days, The day after Tomorrow and an epic disaster scenario ante with the waterworks tuned up to maximum levels and you get a high octane flick which never seems to put its foot away from the accelerator.
With all the special effects, illusions, fiery carnage, massive earthquakes, mega Tsunamis, chaos of disastrous proportions, Director Roland simply does not know what to put in and therefore decides to mix them all into 2012.There's nothing to root against, no recipient to rage against the dying of the light. There's only the spectacle of the world crumbling and the dreary aftermath of cleaning up what's left.
2012 is a movie about the end of mankind, how the “Neutronites” from the sun’s overwhelming power is literally micro-waving the earth’s core and causing massive tectonic plate movements to rock mega Tsunamis all across the globe, creating a tasty but over-filling disaster film cake worthwhile for the adrenaline junkies wanting a kick, but bad for those who just want to take a pee halfway.
JustVim was at the Grand Theatre in LIDO to witness the catastrophic decimation of everything we considered earthly and humane about our civilization. Exactly like The Dark Knight, it portrays exactly the scenario that when the chips are down, these so-called “civilized” people will do almost anything to keep their self-interests at stake. It makes one questions the value of our civility and culture. How one’s race, religion, beliefs, faith, hope and courage can and will be challenged at these trying and unforgiving times of imminent doom.
The bad news: The world as we know it has come to an end. The good news: Mommy's new Boyfriend was squashed in the gears of a giant high-tech Ark, so Daddy's back in the picture!
I mean, what would you do if you were the President of the United States of America, the singular most powerful man in our modern realm, and you knew that besides the filthy billionaires and select few, the billion others on this planet would not even be informed, much less have a chance of being saved?
What The Crew did not fully comprehend was what did Dr Helmsley meant when he said “that the people should have the chance to fight for their lives”? How could or would they?
Our contention is that if years before, when we knew this was going to occur, why did we not prepare enough? It is in our capacity to fully understand and appreciate the situation, improving research and boosting construction of more facilities to sustain life better.
It was however, extremely thought-provoking and stimulating when Dr Helmsley was led to his private room, shocked by the luxury, space and resources and he exclaimed “you could fit 10 people in here!”. The revelation of the ugly truth, selfishness of the people in power and their reluctance to think more than just their self-interests, is the epic zenith of this movie.
For the lesser man like you and I, simply watching the mad preacher burst into flames after being struck by those massive flaming meteor from the eruptions at Yellowstone would suffice.
Remember, inaction is not an action.
