JustVim's movie Review 'When In Rome'

An ambitious young New Yorker, disillusioned with romance, takes a whirlwind trip to Rome where she defiantly plucks magic coins from a "foolish" fountain of love, inexplicably igniting the passion of an odd group of suitors: a sausage magnate, a street magician, an adoring painter and a self-admiring model. But when a charming reporter pursues her with equal zest, how will she know if his love is the real thing?
Before we begin, can the JV Crew just ask, who else feels that Kristin Bell looks a lil' weird or off in this film?

What we meant was that in her previous films, she was romantic, funny, bubbly, petite, vivacious, cute, blazingly stunning and carried herself with a little more flair and glamour. In this film, she looks bed-raggled most of the time and frantically typical. The only reason why most of us still feels she is alright is cuz the rest of the females characters simply looks disastrous and it made Bell stand out pretty much like a thorn in the shrub.

The scenery is dull and the romance is a boring ride--neither the places nor people offer much to write home about. Aimless and ambling along, this is a rom-com that seems totally random. Most scenes were typically boring and the lines were predictable to some extent. Unless you are deeply traumatized and bruised by love, and wanting to enjoy a little on-screen love affair or ridiculous nature, don't bother with this film.

Despite the appeal of its co-stars, this romantic comedy is undermined by over-the-top performances from some of its actors as well as the movie's frantic pace.It is neither deep nor intelligent, but it's not intended to be either. Don't bother to look for intellectual love, deep-rooted romance and thoughtful provocation of the spirited mind, you will not only find the lack thereof, but end up with multiple self-inflicted knife wounds you did to yourself to divert your mind off the lunacy and boredom of the film. The saving grace of the otherwise generic product is that Bell's vivacity and Duhamel's rakish charm allow the viewer to root for them. Pretty much everything else fizzles up as time passed agonizingly by.

This may be a romantic comedy, but for $10 a pop, it is a brainless, fizzy, pathetic-comedy fair- tale filibuster, with a roster of acting talent far beyond expectations.

Notice that there is actually a flop in the plot: When Beth is talking to her sister on the phone, she is told that she must be the one to physically put the coins back in the fountain for the spell to be broken (the reason why she can not just mail the coins to Rome). At the end of the movie, it is Nick throws the poker chip in the fountain, not Beth, but the spell on priest is still broken! Strange, weird but we take it that the Director had ran out of booking time on that public fountain and film reel too.

Either way, you get the idea,. Never throw your coins, however unwanted and dirty they might be, into that toxic, putrid, ungodly Roman Fountain of Love. They let people get in barefooted and frolic around!

If you want to score points with your dream girl or have a heated date, this won't be the movie for the win. However, if it is with a couple of goons and toons, go ahead, enjoy the laughter and spent some time together.

Peace and love.

For the event Posh wore one of her creations, just like always. But who can judge her? She’a real model for her dress line. Her choice for the launch party was a black trench dress that looked perfect, and a pair of super high heels.

JustVim updates!

Hi One and All!

Peeps! The time of Revolution is here! Say what you want and love what you need.

Don't be afraid of change because it revitalizes the weak and invigorates the effete.

You can start by planting a Tree Sapling in your neighborhood, start eating Organic more often, buy that dress or hot jacket you have always wanted, say Hi to your crush and even listen to Beethoven backwards in mono-tune. Whatever the case, be fresh and be you!

Its really amazing how many people have reacted to changes and made something for themselves. See Tiger Woods, Jack Neo and their new-found honesty, Lady Gaga's new retro Blonde look in her latest single "telephone" ft. Beyonce, and the First on-screen Kiss between the two Taylors (Swift and Lautner)! Truly wonderful how simple changes made things more interesting and beautiful all of a sudden.

Oh yea, and while your busy challenging yourself and injecting new-found fun into your previously otherwise plain and simple life, do check out JV's newest collection: Hollywood Starlets up on our livejournal and website.

Make a change now.

Peace
From the JV Crew

First ever mechanical watch, the Celsius X VI II Papillon gives new meaning to Steampunk

When it comes to world class food, art and now apparently mobile phones, France always has something rather unique to offer. A company called Celsius X VI II has designed a mobile phone that takes Steampunk design to a whole new level. Using a new concept called micromechanics the company has showcased this, the Papillon at BaselWorld watch fair in Switzerland. Going back in time in more ways than one, the designers have gone with a clamshell ‘Butterfly’ (as they call it) design and has a transparent casing to show off the inner workings much like in a Swiss watch. In fact that’s where it gets its name "Remontage Papillon" or butterfly rewinding. It uses 547 hand-finished mechanical components. The price – a whopping €200,000 or $270,681.29 (USD). Wow!

Aladdin Flying Carpet coming to Tokyo DisneySea

Themed to the Disney film Aladdin, Jasmine’s Flying Carpets is a ride attraction where guests can soar over Jasmine’s garden on a flying carpet. The ride will debut in summer 2011 at the Tokyo DisneySea theme park facing Tokyo Bay in Chiba Pref. Guests will be able to maneuver their vehicle up and down to a height of 5 meters, and tilt the vehicle forward and backward, as if flying their own magical carpet. This uplifting ride can be enjoyed by all, from young children to adults. Guests can also watch their friends and family on their flying carpet from an elevated viewing deck.

Built at a cost of $22.1 million, the Jasmine’s Flying Carpets with seating capacity of 4 persons (2 persons in 2 rows) per vehicle will have a total of 16 vehicles. With the addition of this new attraction in summer 2011, there will be a total of 32 facilities at Tokyo DisneySea Park (27 attractions, 2 character greeting facilities, and 3 entertainment facilities).

Karl Lagerfeld – Fur Is For The Rich

People get more and more coscious about wearing fur and leather as PETA activists promote their pholosophy of Not killing animals. But fashion world doesn’t always react to such appeals and season after season we see designer collections with fabrics and materials made of animals.

The recent Chanel collection for Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011 featured plenty of fur. Karl Lagerfeld claims all of it was fake. But while using fake fur in his creations he doesn’t say he is against wearing fur at all. The designer states fur should be worn only by those who can afford it.

He said:
"If you cannot afford it, just forget about it. Don’t use it as an investment piece to show people how rich you are. Use it like a cheap knitted thing. It’s like a big stone. Lucky you that you can have a big stone, but if it troubles you financially to have the stone, don’t have the stone. If you can afford it, OK. But if you think it’s an investment, then forget about it.”

Karl admits he “doesn’t like” animals being killed but he has no problems with fur farming because it is a way for people in rural areas to make a living.

He commented to Vice magazine:
"My father was not really a farmer, but I spent my time around the country so I know everything about country life. There’s nothing else to trap in those areas. That’s why I always say, when people talk about not using fur, ‘Are you rich enough to make an income for the people in the north who live from hunting? What do you want them to live off of when there’s nothing else to do?’”

Natasha Poly Vogue Paris April 2010

Maybe it’s my huge desire to feel the heat of summer that affects me so much but I do like this photo shoot with Natasha Poly in Vogue Paris April 2010 issue. The model is featured walking in the desert somewhere in North Africa accompanied by a camel.
And though it must seem ridiculous to think about fashion when the scorching sun literally burns her, Natasha looks incredibly stylish wearing plenty of fringing, knitting, sequins and even fur.
